Dear Sir,

I am desired by Lord Knutsford, to whom I mentioned the object of your visit the other day, to enclose copies of two letters from the Chambers of Commerce at Hong Kong and Singapore, which state the views of those bodies in regard to the employment of European labour in those ports on Sundays.

Lord Knutsford does not at present see how the Government could usefully interfere, and it would seem to rest with the employers of labour to bring about the change, if that is possible.

His Lordship will, however, discuss the matter with Sir G. des Voeux, who is expected shortly in this country, on his arrival; and also with Sir Cecil Smith.

I am &c.

(Signed) H.W. Just

James C. Stevenson Esq. M.P.
